SPOTLIGHT: A Message from Pastor Dave
Each Sunday at the beginning of our worship service, as a portion of our welcome ritual, we affirm this phrase, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.” This phrase is thick and rich in meaning. During this Advent/Christmas season this phrase has lead us to see the story of the Holy Family in a new light. Mary, Joseph, and their baby- Jesus had their lives turned upside down as the result of Herod’s order to slaughter the young of Bethlehem. The Holy family ran for their lives. They became refugees.
Along their lonely sojourn, imagine their being befriended by unnamed individuals who offer hospitality and refuge. What may have seemed as a modest expression of assistance, for a homeless couple with a new born, in reality was life giving and may have been lifesaving. I’m not going to say that posting a banner is lifesaving, but in this time of history it may very well encourage others to consider the plight and humanity of millions of men, women and children on the run for their lives.
